Twenty-four years ago,
Prince Edward Island’s LGBTQ2S+ residents raised their voices and held a march to demonstrate their pride as a community that is representative of importance and uniqueness. Today, their voices have grown into a week-long celebration with events inspired by all colors of the rainbow, attracting people from all over the Maritimes and even across Canada!
The voice of our city’s LGBTQ2S+ community has been there to influence critical historical moments, including the legislation of equal marriage and the addition of protections for gender identity under provincial law. Standing alongside us have been our allies, partners, and supporters just like you!
We are PEI’s longest running pride festival, we host the second largest parade, and we are a member of the national and international associations of pride festivals: Fierté Canada Pride and Interpride. Our organization PRIDE PEI INC. (formerly known as the Abegwit Rainbow Collective) Is a registered non-profit corporation founded in 2015 to unite the voices of various LGBTQ2S+ groups across the island in the production of PEI’s Pride Festival.
While PEI has made great strides over the last 24 years, there is still important work to be done! Bullying, discrimination, and hate crimes still exist on our gentle island. People are still living in fear because of who they are, so stand we invite you to stand with us; Raise your voice for inclusiveness and diversity, as a supporter of Pride PEI!
